Privacy.
The short version: the site collects only what you type into the beta form, and the app keeps your record on your own computer.
This website
This site sets no advertising or tracking cookies and loads no third-party analytics.
If you join the beta, we store what you type into the form: your email address, your name if you give one, what you are studying, how you would bring a model, and your platform. We use it to decide who to invite and to contact you about the beta. We do not sell it or share it for marketing.
Your Rheticus account
You need an account only to join the beta, apply for the student offer or hold a licence. It holds your email address, your name if you give one, your applications and their history, your licences and purchases, and the computers each licence is active on.
A computer is recorded by a name you can change and an identifier made by hashing your system's machine id, so the id itself never leaves your computer. When the app refreshes its licence, about once a week, it sends that licence and the app's version.
For the student offer you give your college's name and either a college email address, to which we send a code, or a photo or scan of your college ID card. We ask for nothing else, and never for a government ID. An ID card is seen only by the person who reviews it, has its location data removed on upload, and is deleted 30 days after the decision.
Mail from us is sent through Resend, and only for a reason you started: a sign-in code, a code for your college email, a decision on your application, your licence key, a payment receipt, or a reply to feedback you sent.
The app
Rheticus keeps your learning record in a single database file on your own computer, and your notes as Markdown files in a folder you choose. None of it is sent to us.
When a session needs a model, the content of that request goes to the provider you configured, under that provider's terms. With a local model, it does not leave your machine. The model in use is always shown, and services you connect, such as GitHub or a calendar, are reached only on your behalf, with their credentials kept in your operating system's credential store.
The app sends no usage data by default. In its settings you can turn on two kinds of report, each on its own: anonymous daily counts (days studied, minutes, answers, requests to models and how many failed, time from installing to a first answer), and crash reports (the kind of error and where in the app's code it happened, with paths, addresses, quoted text and numbers removed). Every report is shown in full in the app, before and after it is sent. Neither ever contains what you study, your questions or answers, your notes or your conversations. Reports carry a random installation id made on your computer, tied to no account.
Feedback you write in the app is sent only when you press Send, with only what you choose to include. If you give an email address, it is used only to reply.
Removing your details
Email hello@rheticus.app from the address you signed up with and we will delete your beta sign-up, or your whole account and everything in it. Records of purchases are kept as the law requires.
Changes
Rheticus is in early beta. This note will be replaced by a full privacy policy before general release, and before any payment is taken.
